When it comes to building a wardrobe full of looks you’ll wear time and time again, it’s easy to overlook buying into each season’s trends. Wearing a classic outfit every day of the week suits some people, but if you’re anything like me, you love a good trend when you see it.
There are so many gorgeous trends out there this season (crushed velvet, luxe satin and menswear- just to name a few), so it’s easy to find one that will flow seamlessly into your closet. While I was browsing Rent the Runway, I happened upon this adorable military-inspired top. I immediately knew it was just the thing I needed to liven up my pre-fall wardrobe. Here are a few of my thoughts on the trend.
WHY I LOVE IT
The comfort. So basically I’m a sucker for anything that makes me feel like I’m not dressed up. Whether you choose a military jacket, combat boots or even a deep-green hued tee, you’re almost ensured to feel comfy.
The colors. Military inspired pieces are almost always neutral, unsaturated colors. This makes them perfect for layering in the chilly months.
The opportunities. These pieces are extremely versatile. They can often amp up a simple pair of jeans or dress down a skirt or dress. The possibilities are endless. Here I pair this top with another trend that’s here to stay, over-the-knee boots. Well, I suppose mine aren’t actually over the knee.
PRO TIP: if you have stubby legs (me), you can fake it ’til you make it by wearing boots that hit you just below you knee cap.
WHY YOU SHOULD TOO
This trend isn’t going anywhere. Year after year, stores come out with these re-imagined rugged pieces. And given its repeated popularity, there are items available for every budget. I’ll link some examples below. All in all, you should be having fun with your outfits! Try out some trendy pieces this fall and embrace a little wardrobe refresh every now and then. (:
