We’ve all been there. Some of us end up there most weeks. Falling into a slump is never easy, especially when you have no idea where your sudden change of beat came from. Knowing when your body and mind need a little extra loving is the key to maintaining self-care.
Let’s chat about three things you can do to escape your slump and live your best life!
Switch Up Your Diet
The food we eat has so much influence over our ability to function. Listen to your body – it will tell you what it needs. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes our cravings are horrid and make us eat an entire bag of Boom Chika Pop in one setting (@me), but becoming aware of how your body reacts to certain foods is essential.
I am never going to preach a restrictive diet because I know that would never work for me, but there are certain steps I have taken over the past few months to really introduce an element of intention to my nibbling. Green smoothies, for example, have been recharging my soul here recently. I have never been one for fruit, but I could tell my body needed it. So I did a little research and have landed on a
few key ingredients that boost me up on the daily. Spinach, a vegan superfood powder, matcha powder and (a new lover) stress-balancing adaptogens all find their way into my fruity creations.
Now, I am not here to preach that green smoothies clear my skin, slim my thighs, and wash my dishes for me. All of these things would be wonderful, but that isn’t the reason behind my daily smoothie. It’s more about taking a self-care moment in the middle of a work day. It’s 2:00 and I’m hangry AF? Smoothie and carry on.
Find a Routine
I love a good skincare moment. For me, a drawn-out nightly regimen is the ultimate way to blast through the end of a blah day. If you aren’t a skincare junkie, you might not have much of a routine set up for yourself. I was chatting with a wellness professional at Lemon Laine the other day and she brought up an interesting point of view on this subject. By creating a reliable start and finish to every single day, you take out the decision anxiety.
So, start with the basics. A simple cleanser and a light moisturizer. I began with these two steps about seven years ago and have started building out a nightly routine ever since. It is never too late to start taking care of your skin (and mind), and it is not selfish to spend a few extra moments pampering yourself at the start and close of a day.
Forgive My Cliché. . .Exercise
You hear it time and time again. There is honestly nothing that gets me through the day like an epic work out. Find what works for you. If you hate showing up at the gym and hopping on a treadmill, try something else. Having a set time to get your body moving and heart rate pumping is so essential for a mindful self-care routine.
