Charming and sweet. Brings joy, never frustration. Flatters you, always. Takes you on luxurious nights and charming adventures. Holds you close then lets you breathe. . .this is how you know you’ve found the One – the perfect dress, that is.
We’ve been taught to believe in fairytales from a young age. Images of perfect suitors (HA!), fairy god mothers, and extravagant balls swirl through through our minds as we grow. The glitter fades at some point, and most of us hit a very firm wall on the edge of Far Far Away. We don’t need Prince Charming to sweep us off our feet, hard work – not a magic wand – is the stuff that makes dreams come true, and no one even dances at our Senior Proms, much less at royal balls. But that doesn’t mean we have to give up on our dreams of whimsical dressing. . .
Heartbreak and a Comeback
I broke up with dresses for a good bit. No matter what I did, I couldn’t find one that let me move and made me feel like myself. Dress shops were my Tinder, and everything was being tossed left. That’s why I am writing this post. Finding a dress you love is kind of like finding a fairytale romance. It’s out there, but you’ll have to go through a series of “oh yikes” moments before you find it.
I found my ever after in this gorgeous Tibi dress with a high neck and a killer back moment while visiting New York last summer. I’ve never felt more like myself in an outfit. The crisp lines and structural definition made me feel strong while the defined waist and full skirt made me feel feminine. Strength and femininity: a modern match made in heaven. And so began my secret love affair with midi dresses.
A New Relationship Status
I’m having a summer romance with this color-blocked floral frock from ASOS. We are madly in love and all the better for it.
SHOP MY LOOK
Fall in love this summer with a dress, with a person, with a book . . . with yourself. xx
