A post about things I’m loving. Oh, and an outfit.

Weekends spent back in my little hometown always spark some absurd explosion of sentiment in my fragile, homesick heart. That’s dramatic, sure, but there is just something about being in my place with my people that warms me to a point of giddiness. In the spirit of giving thanks this month, I wanted to share 5 things I am extra grateful for this season.
1. Magazines
This weekend I came home to a giant stack of magazines (aka Christmas). Ever since I can remember, flipping through magazines has been my stress-reliever. In elementary school, I used to arrive early and race to the library to ensure adequate time to read the latest publication of American Girl before starting the oh-so-overwhelming life of a second-grader with zero craft skills. Magazines have always been how I found “me time,” and it makes me really sad to think that print publications are dying off in our tech-savvy society. So here is a little plug for publications everywhere: buy a magazine subscription, support journalism and find a little time to lose yourself between the pages.
2. Home Cooked Meals
Boy, oh boy, I took easy access to a kitchen for granted. College has taught me many things – that’s what it’s being paid to do. However, an unexpected self-awareness discovery has come about through realizing the effect what I eat has on my mood. One semester of college, and I’ve already had about nine ramen noodle existential crises. We have a long road ahead, folks.
3. Sweaters
This one feels a bit out-of-place, I know. Hear me out. This season, I have an extra helping of love for the funky and chunky (not loving this word-pairing, but it’s effective). Something about the weather’s constant teetering between hot and cold over the last few months has made a sweater all the more desirable for me. Bring on the frosty mornings!!
4. Candles
The heart wants what it wants. And in this case, I can’t have it. *sigh* I didn’t think I would miss lighting a candle during long stretches of homework, but it’s little things like this that make all the difference. I’m not naive; I know some cool people break the Dorm 101 rules and light a candle. . .but I’m a dorky rule head. Plus, my freshly-rejected candle collection gives me another reason to love being home for the weekend.
5. Opportunity
I’m the worst about complaining the days away here at college. If I strip away the constant layer of sleep-deprivation and social angst, I really am aware of just how blessed I am to pursue a degree. Not every kid who dreams of saving the world is given the opportunity, and I really need to take more time to remind myself of this. Especially with finals coming up. . .

SHOP MY LOOK
Oh, how I’ve missed blogging. I can really tell how out-of-practice I am. The words just aren’t flowing these days. I can’t wait to get back into the groove again over winter break, but until then. . . I’ll see you when I see you, I guess.
Best wishes for a beautiful month of November. Hug the people you love, count the blessings you forget and never underestimate the power of a home-cooked meal.
XOXOXO, ZO
